What is a Leader (Part 2 of 10)

No matter the situation or skills, a leader must always consider those he/she is leading and those in his/her sphere of influence. An aloof leader is not a leader at all. We must be aware of our attitudes and of those around us. We must take note, frequently, of not only those who are directly affected by our decisions, but of those who are indirectly affected by those decisions. We must have consideration for others that supersedes our considerations regarding our selves. No leader ever earned respect or followers by ignoring the needs of those in their sphere of influence or by thinking only of themself. Placing other’s needs before our own and doing what is best for the group before we do what is best for ourselves is evidence of a true leadership spirit.

Love it, love it, love it!! I applaud you for your thoughts on integrity and “What is a leader”. It does take a strong, confident man to admit his faults. I so wish my husband, Chris Russo, would have seen this as you do last year,,my heart breaks that its’ not a priority in his life. A great leader he is but without trust there is a limit to how influential he can be in his industry or any for that matter. Our divorce will be finalized in July 2010 after 18yrs of marriage, 4 sons and 7yrs of trying to build trust while separated.

      kp,
I’m sorry to hear your circumstances. I’m just getting back to my blog and I’m planning on making this a more frequent stop. It’s truly terrible when an individual’s shortcomings make life harder for those around them. The reality is, though, that no man is an island. We don’t live in bubbles. We spin about through the world and knock into other people. If we still have sharp edges, we’ll hurt others as we learn to smooth out those sharp areas. If we smooth them out on our own, we’ll do far less damage as we move through life. I wish you the best in the future. Please feel free to say hello again.
